Lakeshore Hospital Guild has funded an Infant Warmer for Ashern Hospital at a cost of $22,000. This item was requested as a high priority need because Ashern has the most babies born compared to other sites in the IERHA that do not have an obstetrical unit. This request came from Ashern’s Clinical Team Manager quoting “an infant warmer is a need to have for resuscitating babies and also to provide ambient warming which is crucial when a baby is in trouble.”

Guild members also embraced the request to make “Welcome Baby kits” for emergency births. These kits consist of items for the new baby including baby hats, blanket, sleeper, onesie, and diapers. Guild members donate knitted baby hats and homemade blankets for these kits. Two days after the first kit was dropped off, a new Mom was thrilled with the Baby’s welcome kit.
For new Moms, Lakeshore Women’s Resource Centre have partnered in this project and put together a “Feel Good” package including personal items for their stay in hospital.
Guild members support these initiatives to assist staff and clients at Ashern Hospital to enhance the quality of care and support for people in our communities.
